Telepsychology

What is Telepsychology?
Telepsychology is the provision of psychological services using telecommunication technologies. This includes videoconference, mobile devices, phone, email, text and internet. Dr. Calaba uses Go To Meeting software which is encrypted and HIPPA compliant for security and confidentiality.
Who Can Do Telepsychology?
Telepsychology is available to new or current clients in the state of California who Dr. Calaba evaluates to be appropriate for remote treatment. Videoconference requires a computer with webcam, a secure internet connection and the ability to click on an e-mail link to start the session. (Dr. Calaba can provide real time instruction by phone.)
Does My Insurance Cover Telepsychology?
Insurance may cover certain types of telepsychology services (e.g., videoconference, FaceTime, phone). It is clients’ responsibility to check with their insurance plan to determine coverage.
Limitations of Telepsychology
Telepsychology may not be practical or dependable for emergency situations. Although a potential emergency response plan will be developed at intake, clients take full responsibility for their emergency needs and agree to seek emergency treatment from local resources and providers.
Telepsychology Guidelines
Guidelines for the practice of telepsychology can be found on the American Psychological Association website and are defined in the California Business and professions Code (Section 2290.5).
How Do I Begin Telepsychology Sessions?

Dr. Calaba is certified in TeleMental Health and holds an Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (#4588).
